Well, honestly speaking, it's probably my "turn." I had a mass of teeny, tiny bumps (clogged pores?) on my forehead when I was 12 until I started washing my face properly -- read: Noxzema, as opposed to a wet facecloth, cleared those puppies up in no time flat. The rest of my teens and well into my twenties was spent with one or two PMS pimples that disappeared quickly.
However.
When I turned 27, my skin went for shit. I'm actually not sure if it was an age-related change in my skin, or if I did it to myself. Right before my 27th birthday, I had gotten a few pimples. This coupled with the idea of "getting older" meant graduating to skin care products more grown up than Noxzema saw me make my first product switch. This particular switch gave me HUGE, painful cystic acne on my chin, somewhere I'd never had pimples before. Which started an endless (well, eight month) cycle of product switching -- I'm sure there were products that *might* have worked, had I been patient enough to wait it out and give them some time to do their job.
But when you go from someone whose skin was the sole inspiration for any compliment she ever received to someone with such huge, horrendous, painful cystic acne, I was absolutely miserable. There were days that I was so upset with the state of my skin, I'd be in tears at the prospect of having to leave the house (and I only did that to go to work, believe you me!).
In the past three years, I've had good periods and bad periods. I'm currently in a bad period. I had a zit in the middle of my forehead right above my nose, but that one popped, so now it's just red from hyper pigmentation (and when you're as pale as I am, the red marks are almost as obvious as an ugly white head). I have one just below my right eyebrow in my eye socket. I have one on either side of my nose. And I have three on my chin.
I'm back to feeling like I don't want to leave the house, but this time is more justified, as my first Christmas party at the new job is tonight. Would a paper bag over my face be considered appropriate attire?
I'm, uh.....not 29 too....and I have the same issue.
ReplyDeleteThis stuff seems to help -

Also, MAC Studio Fix...covers pretty much anything. If I didn't live in a place where moisture is a myth I think my skin would be way more healthy.
Ooh, thanks for the suggestions!
ReplyDeleteI went out and bought that green Physicians Formula stuff, but because 2 of the offending spots had some dry patches, the makeup just highlighted them.
I ended up going with nothing covering the buggers -- it's only bad I'm looking in the mirror! lol
Hello, first-time visitor here; wanted to say thanks for your kind comments about my jewellery on the Artisan Beaders blog!
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying your blog and totally relate to this post. I'd love to tell you that closer to 40 the zits go away, but sadly they do not. Maybe it's just a weird way of helping us think we're not old.
Anyway, I know I'm new here, but I wanted to nominate you for this little blog award because I think your posts are great. You can read more about it here. Or ignore it. I won't be offended! :)

Oh, wow! Thank you so much! I can't tell you how honoured I am. Honestly, I'm still amazed that anyone is even reading this stuff, never mind taking the time to comment!
ReplyDeleteAs soon as I figure out how to post the logo, I will do it and continue the nominations.
And if I don't get one of your pieces for Christmas, I'll buy one myself in the new year. ;)
