Yesterday was the kind of day that makes you want to kick it in the nuts, but makes up for it and has you wanting to kiss it on the mouth by the end of the night

I filed our taxes on Monday night.  We're getting a sizeable refund, which is awesome considering we're going to be pinching pennies for the next nine months.  Tuesday I had visions of running off for a weekend away (Victoria, hopefully - love it there).  I don't know what it is with me, but every time we're in a position where we can't/shouldn't spend money on a trip of any sort, I have this overwhelming URGE.  It's not the travel bug: I'm not built of wanderlust and the need to go and see and do.  It seems to be a case of escapism - wanting to just get away from it all for a little while and forget the potentially (more) difficult (than usual) road ahead of us.  I broached the subject to Chebbar, telling him that we could get gift cards for Best Western through AirMiles, so we wouldn't have to pay for the hotel.  Unfortunately, the gift cards have gone up in cost and while our AirMiles are much higher than anticipated, we're nowhere near close enough after my iPod purchase.

I went to work yesterday with the taste of that disappointment on my tongue.  Within an hour or so, the predicted wind storm hit and the power went out.  Calling BC Hydro for an ETA of power resulted in an estimated time of 2:30pm.  Sweet!  Early dismissal!

Yeaaaaah, no.

Even though Boss #1 told the accountant to leave at 9:30 because "the power will be out all day and there won't be anything to do" and Boss #3 left at 11am, I had the fun! task of cleaning out two YEARS worth of files.  There was nothing left for me to do by 2pm (even my make-work tasks ran out by 3pm).  The power was still out.  The ETA of 2:30 had been removed with no updated time.  I was freezing.  My back was killing me from the constant bending and straightening from filing for 3.5 hours.  Finally at 4pm he looked at me and went, "Oh. Did you want to go home?"  I know it's silly to be annoyed to be at work on a day when I was supposed to be at work, but it just sucked.  (See also: it's my blog and I'll whine if I want to; aka: bite me.)

I was cold and tired and sore and upset and cranky when I got home.  My best guy was totally understanding and told me he was taking me out for dinner (he SO gets me *gushy sigh*).  We had a good dinner, great conversation, and I topped it off with a nice, hot, relaxing bath.  It's amazing what a bubble bath can do to restore a girl's faith in humankind.  ;)

(I did start to get cranky about 10 minutes from work this morning.  I also noticed that the tension in my neck and shoulders "magically" disappears when I get home, only to resurface the exact moment my wheels hit the driveway at work.  It may be time for me to take some time off to rejuvenate.) 1. Too funny! We just got our tax refund and I've been chomping at the bit to take a real vacation (ie - Hawaii). The hubs shot me down because we too, are in the not-so-greatest financial situation right now and saving it would be smart. :( I just want to run away from it all too.

Sorry about your crappy day at work. That blows!
